- -LIVE
TRACKING
- We have a live room with two isolation booths,
and can accommodate any reasonably-sized live band. We have
several tube guitar amps, a great bass amp, as well as a great
sounding drum kit. The drums are always set up, ready to go. All
the booths and spaces have HUGE pieces of glass in them, so eye
contact is not at all compromised for the sake of acoustical
isolation. Our headphone system allows the musicians themselves to
tweak the mix as they wish. A winning combination of pro engineers
and top-shelf equipment makes getting professional results
guaranteed. And, as a studio that has been functioning full time
for sixteen years, set up time is mercifully short. NYC Studio Pics
-
- Our new Woodstock, NY facility has a larger
live room, a 12-foot cathedral ceiling with skylight, and oak
floor. There are also two large booths, each with a panoramic view
of the rest of the room. There is a 7'6" concert hall quality
Yamaha C7 Grand piano, as well as a Hammond B3 with Leslie
cabinet. As in the NYC studio, each musician has their own
headphone box that allows them to adjust the mix to their liking.
All this makes for a great environment for bands (or solo acts) to
get away from their regular life and just work on the music for a
few days. We also have a 16' x 32' pool (with a diving board!), as
well as seventy acres of woods in back of the studio. All in all,
a really fun place to record. Woodstock is a one and a half hour
drive from the George Washington Bridge, and there is a bus from
the Port Authority as well. Woodstock Studio Pics

- -OVERDUBS
- We have all the great mics, micpreamps, and
compressors. Our Equipment
List reads like a "Who's Who" in the
high-end equipment world. Our hard disk-based systems use only
top-notch analog-to-digital convertors.
- Our Neumann Tube U47 - Neve 1066 MicPre/EQ
(or John Hardy, Summit Tube, or Demeter Tube Micpreamps),
through the Summit Mono Tube Compressor (or Urei LA3A
Compressor), is a vocal signal path second to none. If you need
a fantastic vocal sound such as you have heard on the best
sounding CDs in your collection, we have it.
-
- -MIXING
- Most mixing these days is computer-assisted,
with full automation of every aspect of the mix under computer
control. This means that you can literally mix from
session-to-session, even mix while still in the overdub stage.
This allows you to be able to listen to your mixes at home, "off
the clock", and be able to pick up exactly where you left off at
your next session. I call it "Incremental Mixing", and I consider
this the be among the biggest improvements in making records in
the twenty-five years I have been involved in recording. This also
means that if you take home what you might think is a "final" mix,
and you find something you wish to change, you can return for a
short session and change ONLY THAT ONE THING, and everything else
will remain the same. Making records doesn't have to be stressful
anymore.
-
- If you are recording at home, and want some
information on how we can help you maximize what you have already
started, check out our page on HOME
STUDIO SERVICES.
-
- For those who wish to do a full-blown analog
console mix, we have a great mix environment for that too. We have
a VERY large console (DDA model AMR24, more console info,
click
here), with 84 channels with faders on
mix. We have a ton of high end outboard, which includes 17
compressor/limiters, several high-end reverb units (two Lex
300's), Eventide Harmonizer, Lexicon PCM70, Yamaha SPX1000, and
more, five dedicated delays (including two Lexicon PCM41's), etc.
A Leslie 147 Organ Cabinet can also be patched into the mixing
console. The console can handle the 2" 24-trk machine, and as many
hard-disk or adat tracks you can throw at it AT THE SAME TIME. We
can trigger new or additional drums sounds from drum tracks on
tape. MIDI tracks synced to tape playback during mix? No Problem.
If your budget won't allow for a Neve or SSL room, this is the
next best thing...
-
- Most of our work for the past several years
has been mixing. WE ARE A GREAT MIX STUDIO.
-
- -MASTERING
FOR CD (AND VINYL)
- We have a full-time mastering facility here.
Hundreds and hundreds of CDs (and vinyl!) have been mastered here.
Check our page on MASTERING.
-
- -LIVE
RECORDING
- Yes, we can come to your concert or gig and
record you. We can accommodate pretty much whatever you might have
in mind. We can do a simple live to two-track recording, or a
full-blown multi-track recording, which would allow you to "mix"
it later, as well as do some degree of editing and "fixing". If
you wish to work on the tracks yourself, we can supply the tracks
to you in whatever format you wish: 2" tape, Pro Tools files,
ADAT, etc. Having recorded concerts in clubs, halls, churches, and
even Lincoln Center, no project is too big or too
complex.
-
- -ORGAN
& PIANO
- In Woodstock, we have a Hammond B3 and Leslie
147. They are in perfect operating condition, and sound fantastic.
So good, in fact, that many organ trio records have been cut on
them.
-
- Also in Woodstock, we have a Yamaha C7, a 7'6"
concert grand piano. It's an absolutely top-notch, concert hall
quality piano. If you need to do piano recording and need a piano
of extremely high caliber, this is it.
-
- -CD
DUPLICATION
- -We can do runs of any size of your finished
(or demo) recording project, complete with full color photos
and/or graphics right on the disc. All with a usual turnaround
time of only a day or two.
- -We can make CDROM (or DVD) backups of your
important audio and graphics files.
-
- -SERVICES
