TAPE RESTORATION

Older analog tapes will "shed" if they are played, rendering them unplayable and damaging them in the process! How "old" is "old"? That depends on storage conditions, the ideal being "cool and dry". After ten years or so, even these tapes will most likely shed if played. If stored under higher heat and humidity, these tapes can be in bad shape after as little as five years. Playing tapes in this condition will permanently ruin them.

Tapes that have deteriorated in this way need to be "baked", and then copied onto a new storage medium (tape/CD/hard disk/whatever). "Baking" the tape reactivates the binder that holds the iron oxide particles onto the tape itself. As you might have guessed by now, we bake tapes!

We can transfer pretty much any tape format to any "modern" format you choose.

Once transfered, we can do all sorts of cleanup, including elimination of tape hiss. We do this regularly for record companies. We can do it for you too.


VINYL RECORD RESTORATION

We can also transfer vinyl records to CD, and get rid of the surface noise, pops and crackles, at the same time. Whether it is compiling old 45s for re-release on vinyl or CD, or just making a CD out of an old favorite LP you have in your closet, we can do it.
